LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING

It’s true—love changes everything.  Imagine:  a veteran performer who graced the stages of Europe and Broadway returns to Chicago, a city she has loved her entire life; a director waits for more than a dozen years to take the reins of a show she fell in love with at first sight; an actress who so loved taking part in a theatre’s last production returns to the same theatre as a leading lady—to portray a leading lady—in its newest production….  They almost sound as if they could be the characters in ASPECTS OF LOVE, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical about the intricate webs woven by passion and desire—but no, they are a few of the company members producing the musical that opens Big Noise Theatre Company’s 2006-2007 season.
ASPECTS OF LOVE, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Charles Hart and Don Black, is based on David Garnett’s novel of the same name.  This brilliantly structured romance interweaves the desires of five central characters:  Alex, a handsome young soldier; Rose, a beautiful actress; George, an elderly aristocrat; Guilietta, an Italian sculptress; and Jenny, a 15-year-old girl. Set in France and Italy, the musical illuminates the entangled lives of three generations over three decades.

Playing Guilietta Trapani in this production is veteran performer Katherine Condit; her previous credits include the Broadway cast of CHESS, the European production of CATS, and the national tours of A CHORUS LINE and JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.  When she was ready to stop “living out of a suitcase,” marry, and focus more on directing and other aspects of her career, however, Condit returned to Chicago, the place where she was introduced to the arts by her musician father, attended college, and started her life’s work.

Joining her on stage is Alexis Armstrong as the vibrant actress Rose Vibert.  Armstrong is returning to Big Noise Theatre Company where she recently won acclaim playing the title character in last season’s production of JANE EYRE.

When Jean Losquadro first encountered ASPECTS OF LOVE in the early 1990’s, she vowed to one day direct the show.  Though many Losquadro-directed productions are well known to area theatre-goers, this show has eluded her—until now.   Audiences may already be familiar with her work at Northbrook Theatre, Glenview Theatre Guild, Theatre on the Lake, and a number of other companies.  For this endeavor, Losquadro once again teams up with Music Director Richard Schwegel; their previous collaborations include WHAT ABOUT LUV? and MESHUGGANUNS at the Attic Playhouse, JEKYLL AND HYDE for North Shore Theatre of Wilmette, and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, CHESS. BALLROOM, THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, SECRET GARDEN, LUCKY STIFF, and INTO THE WOODS with Winnetka Theatre.

Come get caught up in the provocative net of betrayal and faithfulness, doubt and certainty, despair and hope, infatuation and true devotion—all set to some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most exquisite music.  As his song reveals:  “Love will never, never let you be the same...”
