BEAU JEST, written by James Sherman, is the hilarious, heart-warming play that ran for a year in Chicago and was a phenomenal Off-Broadway hit for two and a half years.
Sarah Goldman is secretly dating Chris who does not meet the approval of her traditionally-minded parents. To please them, Sarah invents the perfect boyfriend. When the parents want to meet him, Sarah, in desperation, hires Bob, and out of work actor, to pretend to be her make-believe beau.

Review by Joe Stead
Great news for those who live in the Chicagoland suburbs: there is terrific theatre right in your own back yard that does not require an expensive trip downtown. For over a decade now I have enjoyed the work of Big Noise Theatre and its sister company, Winnetka Theatre, and rarely have they been in finer form than with James Sherman's Chicago-born classic "Beau Jest". Those whose memories go back to the late 1980's in Chicago will probably remember this endearing family comedy as one of the biggest hits in Victory Gardens' history. Sherman has often been described as Chicago's own Neil Simon, and we can certainly see why in this beautifully crafted and hilarious work. Having it played as honestly and effervescently as it is by the Big Noise troupe is just icing on an already delicious cake.
"Beautifully crafted and hilarious . . . played honestly and effervescently"
"Quality abounds in Catherine Davis' highly skilled production and in the choice ensemble"
